Abstract and classical
Modern Sculptures for the Home
One sculpture can hold a shelf, a console or a mantel on its own. Ours move between two moods: abstract figures in textured ceramic, and classical torsos and busts in weathered, stone-like finishes. Set one where the light falls across it, leave space around it, and let it be the thing the eye lands on.

How to choose
Scale, space, light and mood
A sculpture earns its place by where it sits as much as by what it is. Four things to weigh before you choose.
01
Scale
On a console or mantel, a piece between a third and half the height of the wall art above it looks deliberate. An 8 to 10 inch piece suits a shelf or a stack of books; a 20 inch piece can hold a sideboard alone.
02
Space
Give a sculpture room. Clear a hand's width around it on a shelf, and keep nearby objects lower than its outline so its shape reads from across the room.
03
Light
Light from the side brings out texture. A piece near a window or beside a table lamp shows its surface in a way flat overhead light never does.
04
Mood
Abstract forms, like the Coppia, feel quiet and modern. Classical torsos and busts bring a sense of history. One of each, on different surfaces, can share a room.

Care for a sculpture
- Dust gently. A soft, dry cloth or brush keeps texture and finish clean.
- Keep it dry. Wipe with a barely damp cloth only when needed, then dry right away. Papier-mâché is sensitive to water.
- Indoors only. Keep pieces out of humidity and strong direct sun.
- Lift from the base. Support the base, not the sculpted form, when you move a piece.

Questions
Sculpture FAQ
Where should I put a sculpture in a living room?
On a surface people see as they enter or sit down: a console, a mantel, a coffee table or an open shelf. Place it where side light from a window or lamp falls across it, and leave space around it so its outline reads clearly.
What size sculpture should I choose for a console or mantel?
Aim for a piece between a third and half the height of the art or mirror above it. On a shelf, an 8 to 10 inch piece like the Coppia fits well; a larger piece, like the 26 inch Romano torso, can stand alone on a sideboard or mantel.
What are your sculptures made of?
It depends on the piece, and we say so on each one. The Coppia is handcrafted ceramic. The Soul in Stone and Romano are cast polyresin with stone-like finishes, which keeps them light. The draped bust is a blend of wood and papier-mâché.
Should I choose an abstract or a classical sculpture?
Abstract forms suit a modern, minimal room and let texture and shape do the talking. Classical torsos and busts add a sense of history and pair well with stone, linen and warm wood. Many rooms hold one of each, on different surfaces.
How do I clean a decorative sculpture?
Dust it with a soft, dry cloth or brush. For a deeper clean, use a barely damp microfiber cloth and dry it right away; keep papier-mâché pieces away from water entirely. Avoid sprays and harsh cleaners.
